What the ๐ช emoji means
๐ช is the Treasure Chest: a wooden chest with an open lid, gold coins and gemstones visible inside or spilling out. Its Unicode keywords are gem, gold, jewels, loot, money and prize.
It fills a gap that had been increasingly obvious - the emoji set had ๐ฐ money bag and ๐ gem stone, but nothing for the chest itself, which is one of the most recognisable objects in gaming and adventure fiction.
How people use ๐ช
- Gaming loot. Almost certainly the dominant use. Chests are the universal reward mechanic - Minecraft, Zelda, Fortnite, every loot-box system ever built.
- Pirate content. Treasure maps, X marks the spot, talk like a pirate day.
- Something valuable found. A good second-hand find, a useful resource, an underrated album.
- Giveaways and prizes. Competitions and reward announcements.
