Emoji 17.0, released September 2025. It introduced 8 new emoji. Vendors ship them in their own operating system updates, so they usually reach most phones the following year.
Why can I not see the newest emoji on my phone?
Because your device has not been updated yet. Unicode only defines the character; Apple, Google, Samsung and the rest each draw and ship it in their own OS release. Until then a new emoji shows as an empty box, or as its component parts if it is a joined sequence.
How often are new emoji released?
Once a year. The Unicode Consortium has published an emoji release every September since 2021, and earlier releases came out in the first half of the year.
